SOUTHERN PLANT & TOOL HIRE OFFERS NEW CAPABILITY WITH TRACCESS
Henley-on-Thames-based Southern Plant & Tool Hire has purchased a CTE Traccess 135 mobile tracked access platform to provide a new dimension to its fleet capabilities. The company was looking for a compact machine that could operate over rough terrain and in confined spaces and offer its customers a new way to work safely and efficiently when conventional access platforms or scaffold towers are inappropriate.
“The CTE Traccess 135 is well built and will stand up to the work it will be used for in the hire market,” says Vince Rose, Southern Plant’s depot manager. “We’d tried similar machines from other manufacturers but they weren’t up to the job. The CTE Tracess 135 combines great performance with ease of use.”
Southern Plant & Tool Hire is an independent plant and tool hire company, established in 1990, which currently has 15 employees. Operating from a central town location with excellent storage facilities, the company supplies a wide range of excavators and dumpers, scaffold towers and systems, mowers and garden equipment to clients predominantly in construction, gardening and arboriculture. It also runs a shop offering a range of industrial and DIY building products, safety equipment and clothing.
The company operates trailer mounted booms, electric scissor lifts and mobile booms to fulfil customer requirements. Vince Rose wanted a modern, compact and reliable tracked machine that would be able to operate over rough terrain such as building sites and gardens, pass through narrow gates and doorways and operate indoors and outside. To offer maximum rental flexibility and comply with UK building site regulations the machine had to be diesel powered with a 110V mains electric powered auxiliary motor for internal and silent operation in noise-susceptible areas and have a 110V supply to the basket.
The Traccess 135 from CTE has all these features. It also has a remote drive facility that allows the operator to stand a safe distance away while moving and positioning the machine and a 200kg two man basket for easy and uncomplicated use throughout the entire working envelope of 13m maximum working height and 6.5m maximum working outreach. Another feature that has proved useful and popular with customers is the combination of articulated boom and fly-jib that allows the basket to be positioned at almost any point in the working area, including “up and over” obstructions between the base and basket.
“I was looking for a reliable machine that I won’t have to keep following out to site due to breakdowns,” says Vince Rose. “This new machine will help us meet continuing customer demand for a compact tracked platform that is easy to operate and safe to use. It will be particularly useful for local builders, bricklayers, tree surgeons and painters and decorators who need easy access to do their work. It presents a practical and cost effective alternative to erecting scaffold.”
